Abstract
This study seeks to offer unique insights into the responses of Iranian web users to the 2022 unrest in Iran. Examining users' "concept seeking" behavior during periods of turmoil yields valuable insights into public sentiments and sheds light on topics of significance for Iranian internet users during such events. The theoretical framework of this study draws from theories of representation, foregrounding, and cultivation. Employing a qualitative and exploratory research approach, data was gathered through Google Trends and displays of information behaviors. Subsequently, content analysis was conducted to analyze the collected data. Key findings of this research include: limited response from the majority of Iranian society to the unrest; most users engaging with entertainment, sexual content, and food-related topics; neutrality observed among a significant portion of society; positive impact of internet filtering leading to reduced usage of foreign social networks, with a concurrent increase in usage of domestic social networks.
